BANGKOK
COSMOS (Thailand) |
 |
 |
Country: Thailand
City: Bangkok
Team Color: Black or Yellow
Captain: Mauro
Players: International... |
Bangkok’s Cosmos Football Club was founded on a rainy September day in the smoky clubroom of the then legendary Hotspot Company House on Sukhumvit 65. Although rumors have it that the founders only remotely remember the details, given their usual state on such occasions, the idea was to establish a multi-cultural club, based on a mutual pleasure of quality football rather than on nationality.
Cosmos FC quickly established itself in the Bangkok football scene and became a synonym for fast paced, short passing. In the early days not less than four Thai Ex-Internationals joined the ranks amongst all the other nationalities, contributing to Cosmos fast rise in Asian amateur football.
Cosmos engagement in Veterans football started in 2005, probably forced by the fact that despite all the fitness somehow speed was much more difficult to maintain. Cosmos then won the 2005 Bangkok 7s, followed by a win of the same tournament in Phuket. 2006 they had to be content with a runner-up spot but they compensated by winning EG’s regular Vets tournament a total of 4 times in that year.
Cosmos has set high targets for 2007, most of all to keep their legendary easy-going, laid back approach. As a matter of fact each player in the Cosmos (Vets) squad will readily confirm that these tournaments are played in high spirits with no tussles and hustles involved, at least not within their own squad and that means “Mission accomplished”. |

BOCA
SENIORS (Hong
Kong) |
 |
 |
Country: Hong Kong
City: Various bars in and
around Wanchai
Team Color: Blue & Yellow
Captain:
Tunners
Players: Mainly English with a token ‘Willy Wonka’ style Aussie for ‘thong and singlet’ comedy value |
Boca Seniors was founded in 1997 and we have been playing in Hong Kong’s Yau Yee League (YYL). In our inaugural season (1997/98) we won the YYL Second Division title, which we subsequently won again in the 2001/02 season. Frequent arrivals and departures being the nature of an expatriate’s life has meant that Boca’s forays into the top flight have been all too fleeting, with only two seasons in the YYL First Division. After a few transitional seasons the 2006/07 campaign was more successful and it was a promotion year with Boca regaining their 2nd Division status.
The club’s squad over the years has included the full range of nationalities usually found within Hong Kong’s expatriate community… England, Wales, Scotland, China, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, India, Nepal, Senegal and even one guy from Mauritius, who was of course a Man. Utd. fan !
We strongly believe in the philosophy of match days consisting of three ‘halves’ and you can guarantee that whether we win, lose or draw during the first two of these ‘halves’, Boca will be sure to outshine the opposition during the third half.
Thank you for inviting Boca Seniors to play in the Phuket International Soccer 7’s Tournament again and we look forward to seeing all the other teams this weekend and remember, it’s all about your performance in that crucial third half ! SEE YOU IN BANGLA !! |

COLOMBO LIONS FC (Sri Lanka) |
 |
 |
Country: Sri Lanka
City: Colombo
Team Color: White
Captain: Keith
Players: International... |
In an insignificant corner of an obscure outward spiral arm of a galaxy you’ve never heard of in the football universe, there exists a small but dedicated group of players known as the Colombo Lions. Founded as a joint venture between the British High Commission (Sri Lanka) and the British Council (Sri Lanka) after a damned good night out (please send stamped, addressed envelope and a £15 administration fee for sordid details) in February 2004 and managed by Matt Lister, the team consists mainly of Brits but not exclusively. The current membership has a truly international representation. Sadly, only a skeleton team is available for this tournament consisting of:
Darren McClymont, 38 – Striker, England.
Darren has been described in the past as a “space hopper with arms”. But not by me. ‘Nuff said. Knows where the goal is. Favourite film; Lick my whip III. Favourite food; Food. Supports Liverpool.
Keith Mullan, 34 – On planet Mullan he’s a striker but, down here on Earth, he’s a defender, England.
Frankly, I don’t care about all those unpleasant things the players say about him when he’s not there, I actually quite like him. He just needs to stop trying so hard and be himself, bless. Favourite film; Teenage mutant ninja turtles. Supports either Everton or M*nch*st*r Un*t*d. I can’t quite remember.
Previne Wicks, Approximately six months older than his teeth – Winger, South Africa.
Prev likes nothing more than to wear the latest designer gear to parade up and down the catwalk in his head. Loves animals and prays every night for World peace and an end to cruelty. It has been suggested that he take up boxing as he’s far too pretty to be playing football. Number of knees in good working order; 1. Supports L’Oreal because he’s worth it.
Iain Cochrane, 43 – Defender, England.
Bloody nice chap! Probably the funniest man I know. Not as quick as he used to be despite a new haircut but, like all good anti-heroes, it’s nice to know he’s there if needed. Like Previne, has a 50% deficit in the knee department. Really, a great, great guy. Supports Sunderland.
Richard Lloyd, 36 – Midfield, Wales.
Lloydie (aren’t we the imaginative ones) is the workhorse and heartbeat of the side who is getting angrier by the week. If you want an easier game against the Lions, he’s the one you should kick lumps out of but you didn’t hear that from me. Supports Aston Villa and if you think that’s weird, his son Luke supports absolutely everyone even when they’re playing each other!
Danny Rogers, 89 – Striker, England.
Not much is known about this elusive goal scoring machine. I thought I saw him once in Madame Rosa’s naughty emporium on the Reeperbahn but it turned about to be a high ranking cabinet minister…erm… Maybe I’ve just said too much. Supports Arsenal.
Donald Spivey, 12 – Defender, England.
Don’t let his easy manner and lazy approach to the game fool you. It hasn’t fooled anyone so far as what you see is what you get with Don. Favourite film; Escape to victory (probably). Owns a Croatian national shirt but supports Huddersfield town and Gillingham. His best friend is a tree called Melvyn.
Jean-Michel Rajap, 102 – Midfielder (probably – nobody tells me anything round here), Sri Lanka.
Even more elusive than Danny Rogers. Also, owes me a pint. Eyes, brown; Favourite spice girl, Baby; Favourite colour, Pink; Favourite food, Deep fried squirrels eggs.
Supports Toy town tiddlywinks all star XI (reserves). |

DO
IT & ISCI FC (Indonesia) |

|

|
Country: Indonesia
City: Jakarta
Team Color: Yellow
Captain: Lucas
Players: Indonesian,
Singaporean, Canadian,
Chinese... |
Do It Satu Lagi, formerly known as Do It United FC were formed
in May 1993 by Tony Winyard from regulars of the "JJ
Do It!" bar in Jakarta, Indonesia. We compete in the
Jakarta International Football League (JIFL), which consists
of mainly expatriate players from all parts of world playing
in 12 different teams, with each team nominally being from
a country or in our case a bar basis. In August 2002 the team
name was changed to Do It Satu Lagi FC as the Satu Lagi bar
have sponsored us for the past 8 years.! Originally a team
of fit, younger players, we have now matured into a team of
not so young, not so fit players with an active youth policy,
being back row, 2nd left, aged 34 years old. This will be
DoIts first overseas tournament, but we do participate
in all the main expatriate 6s tournaments, including
the Bali, ISCI and Knudde 6s. Of the team participating
in this tournament we have old Do It players flying in from
Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Canada and Indonesia. |

MALAYSIAN
GRASSHOPPERS FC (Malaysia) |
 |

|
Country: Malaysia
City: Kualalumpur
Team Color: Red
Captain: Nigel Miller
Players: International... |
The Malaysian Grasshoppers were formed in 1993 predominantly
for the German speaking community in Kuala Lumpur at that
time. The basis of the team was to play hard and socialize
even harder. Over the years the MG’s have become international
in nature and have also welcomed many local Malaysians to
play with them, but the hard-core of the team is still German
speaking. It is a lasting tribute to Jurg Ruckmar and Karl-Heinz
Heil, the founding fathers of the Grasshoppers, that they
created a club able to field English, Argentinan, French,
Turks Greeks, and Germans all on the same pitch without any
international incidents, of note! The name Grasshopper emanates
from the Swiss team Grasshoppers of Zurich, and the MG’s
have tried in vain over the years to match their illustrious
European counterparts for style and quality! Over the years
The MG’s have not had too much success on the pitch,
but glimpses of excellence have surfaced sporadically from
a sea of mediocrity. Nevertheless, win or lose the MG’s
have Premier league status when it comes to the ‘third
half’ with many players shining more in the bar than
in the box! The future looks bright for the Malaysian Grasshoppers.
The numbers of players continues to increase, the standard
of play improves with every Weis beer consumed, and we have
a new Captain with a mission to take us to the stars, (or
is that bars?). Our opposition should be afraid….very
afraid! |

SHANGHAI SAUERKRAUTS 06(China) |
 |
.JPG) |
Country: China
City: Shanghai
Team Color: White or Red
Coach: Helmut
Players: German... |
Shanghai Sauerkrauts 06 represents not only the newly founded team of the Krauts Soccer Club but also combines pure soccer experience of the generation Franz Beckenbauer alike. After struggling through their first season in the competitive Shanghai League the team found together and also realised that they can very much compete in “smaller competitions with higher age”, especially on international turf. And after their Runners-Up in Bangkok this April it took only a whisper to get a solid team together for Phuket: 4 months ahead! And here the 500 years of football power come (the individual break-down by age remains secret): Helmut as squad leader, Carlo “our very own New Zealander”, Adrian Holland (from England as you can figure), Frank D., Olaf a.k.a “da Dresdna auch”, Gerhard “we are certain his birthday falls that weekend”, Thomas, Daniel (only slightly below 35 but see him running nobody will complain about “Wettbewerbsverzerrung”) and a couple of other “old” friends of the club from Turkey, Hong Kong, Schalke Greater Area and Buxtehude-Nord. |

THE FLYING DUTCH TEAM (Malaysia) |
 |
 |
Country: Malaysia
City: Kuala Lumpur
Team Color: Orange
Captain: Frank Holle
Players: Mostly Dutch, but some Italian and others dubious nationalities…… |
This team played last season in the KL Social League and improved dramatically over the year. It is now one of the top contenders for next season and has declared itself most promising team of the entire KL Social league! The team combines skill, technique, experience and speed in a unique manner and its tactics can only be characterized as the famous “Dutch total football style”. The purpose of participating in the Phuket tournament is to improve the team spirit and get a break from our harsh five-days-a-week training schedule in Kuala Lumpur. When the Dutch national team plays at big tournaments hotel-discipline often lacks, one of the reasons that we lost the world cup final in 1974 against Germany (“famous swimming pool scandal with Johan Cruijf as one of the main culprits). Team members will therefore not be allowed to unite with their partners during this tournament. They will also not be allowed to leave the hotel after 11 pm. Expect a motivated and disciplined Dutch national team this year!! |
